FERPA resources linked on the Student FERPA page of our website like the Waiver to Release Educational Records and the Non-Disclosure of Directory Information forms can be utilized by current and past students.

Waiver to Release Educational Records - This form is useful for students who wish to waive their rights to the privacy of their educational record to designated individuals (most often parents or guardians).  Electronically, this form must be sent from a student's Pitt e-mail address or, if not coming from a Pitt e-mail address, with accompanying photo ID (scan or photo of driver's license, passport, or student ID if sending via e-mail) in order to be accepted.  Students may also appear in-person in G-3 Thackeray Hall to submit this waiver.  Once received by the Office of the Registrar, the student's record will have a service indicator applied in PeopleSoft, denoting those who are authorized to receive information contained within a student's educational record.  In practice, when releasing any information about a student electronically or otherwise, it is essential to verify the identity of the recipient of the information before disclosing.

Non-Disclosure of Directory Information - This form can be utilized by students who wish to restrict access to all directory information kept by the University.  When working with students interested in this option, it is important to advise students of the implications of choosing not to have directory information released, especially if they are receiving financial aid of any kind, as their enrollment information will not be released to enrollment reporting agencies.  Electronically, this form must be sent from a student's Pitt e-mail address or, if not coming from a Pitt e-mail address, with accompanying photo ID (scan or photo of driver's license, passport, or student ID if sending via e-mail) in order to be accepted.  Students may also appear in-person in G-3 Thackeray Hall to submit this form.  Once received by the Office of the Registrar, the student's record will have a service indicator applied in PeopleSoft, indicating no information is to be disclosed without the student's written consent.
